Medieval Terrassa
The city’s rich heritage makes it possible to take a journey through Catalan history. A leap in time takes us to the medieval period where the Seu d’Ègara (monumental ensemble of the churches of Sant Pere) constitutes an exceptional element of the historical and artistic heritage of Catalonia and covers an uninterrupted period from the Iberian era up to the present day.
Walking through the city, guided by specialist experts, the visitor will get to know the most complete medieval heritage.
An exceptional route where you visit the Seu d’Ègara (the churches of Sant Pere), a complex made up of three churches with preserved evidence of the buildings of the Visigothic bishopric of Ègara, the early medieval and Romanesque wall paintings and the Gothic altarpieces.
HEADQUARTERS OF ÒGARA
In the monumental ensemble, unique in our country and in Europe, the period of the old Episcopal See of Ægara (5th – 8th centuries) stands out.
Founded around the year 450, the episcopal residence and the Cathedral of Ægara, underwent some transformations over the centuries, considering the whole as an artistic and cultural reference from the beginnings of Christianity and one of the main pre-Romanesque and Romanesque monuments of Catalonia The complex is made up of three churches, Sant Pere, Sant Miquel and Santa Maria, and is next to the Vallparadís Park.
Next to the group of churches of Sant Pere, in the same Parc de Vallparadís, is the old Carthusian Castle of Vallparadís originally from the 12th century which became a Carthusian in the 14th-15th centuries.
